The Southeastern Heart Center combines various diagnostic procedures, surgical treatments, medical management and percutaneous procedures, all focused on heart disease. The Heart Center provides diagnostic services and treatment programs for adults with heart disease in an easy-to-access location on Southeastern Regional Medical Center—Southeastern Health's hospital campus. We have partnered with Duke University Health System to ensure a high-quality program.
The Heart Center includes the following clinical areas:
- Cardiac cath lab
- Cath lab holding area
- Echocardiography
- Cardiothoracic operating rooms
- Cardiovascular intensive care unit (CV ICU)
- Cardiovascular intermediate care unit (CV IMU)
Procedures
Southeastern Health offers full-service heart, thoracic, and vascular procedures, including:
- Coronary Artery Bypass Grafts (CABG), a surgery that can improve blood flow to the heart by providing a new route, or “bypass”, around a section of blocked or diseased arteries
- Valve surgery, repair and replacement of cardiac valves
- Percutaneous Cardiovascular Intervention (PCI), a non-surgical procedure in which several methods may be employed to clear blockages in the arteries, allowing blood to flow normally. Some of the more common methods include:
- Angioplasty, where a balloon-tipped catheter is inserted into a blocked or narrowed artery and inflated to clear the blockage
- Stent placement (including drug-eluting types), where a tiny cage-like structure helps keep open arteries cleared by angioplasty
- Thoracic surgical procedures for treatment of diseases of the chest and lungs, such as removal of lung cancers or chest masses
